Job Description

A Shift Miller in Olam Agri is responsible for managing daily milling operations to ensure optimal plant efficiency, consistent product quality, and cost-effective production. The role involves operating milling processes, troubleshooting issues, coordinating maintenance activities, and ensuring adherence to safety, hygiene, and quality standards.

The incumbent also leads milling teams, manages spare parts and materials, and ensures best practice execution to drive operational efficiency and profitability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure efficient daily milling operations and maximise plant performance
  • Maintain product quality and extraction levels as per defined parameters
  • Execute production plans and monitor process performance
  • Troubleshoot milling issues and optimise equipment performance
  • Maintain production and shift reports, including downtime tracking
  • Ensure compliance with safety, hygiene, GMP, QMS, FSMS, and 5S standards
  • Control operational costs and minimise process waste
  • Lead and train milling teams to ensure operational excellence

Additional Responsibilities:

Operational Effectiveness:

  • Monitor and execute production plans while maintaining efficiency and output targets
  • Ensure timely reporting of operational performance and downtime
  • Maintain hygiene and sanitation standards across the plant

Cost & Process Efficiency:

  • Minimise production waste (target reduction in process losses)
  • Control operational and overhead costs within the department
  • Support budgeting and cost optimisation initiatives

Organisational Effectiveness:

  • Manage vendor services such as cleaning, waste disposal, and maintenance in a cost-effective manner
  • Maintain plant premises, including yard and perimeter areas
  • Support personnel management and ensure proper record maintenance

Job Requirements:

Experience:

  • Minimum 4+ years of hands-on experience in wheat milling
  • Proven experience in production and milling operations (flour/feed products)
  • Experience managing independent operations and leading teams
  • Exposure to troubleshooting, maintenance coordination, and process optimisation

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Food Science
  • NABIMS certification or Diploma in Milling from a recognised milling school (preferred)

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong technical knowledge of milling processes and equipment
  • Excellent leadership and people management skills
  • Ability to manage diverse and multicultural teams
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities
  • Effective communication and coordination skills
