Executes the clinker plant operation during their shift in a cost-effective and safe manner. Anticipates and solves problems on shift and reports unresolved problems to the Shift Supervisor and to the incoming shift Process operator. Aims to achieve the shift targets. Ensures that shift production figures are recorded accurately and timeously

Minimum Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Matric/Gr12 Diploma/Certificate in chemical engineering, production management, chemistry or equivalent

• EXPERIENCE: 2 Years Experience in a clinker/cement manufacturing plant and/or process
• Microsoft Office - Basic
• Industrial Control Software (SCADA)
• Performance Management System
• Achiever System
• Certificate of competency in mobile equipment & plant operation
• ISO EMS 14001 2015, QMS 9001 and OHS45001 2018 systems

Duties and Responsibilities

Production control

• Ensure Operator Logs are accurately completed by operators and mobile equipment.
• Compile End of shift report, accurately and comprehensively completed, including Target / Actual / Variance (including down time and outstanding work orders) as well as proper action planning during the shift.
• Ensure production data is being used for Visual Management in all areas in the plant.

Production review

• Gather relevant production data, prepare for and provide input into start of shift production INVOCOM.
• Conduct Short Interval Control with supervisor.

Process Optimisation

• Conduct preliminary diagnostic during process upsets.
• Actions instructions during efficiency and productivity improvement initiatives.
• Liaise with supervisor on resolution of mechanical, electrical and operational issues and raise urgent/non-urgent work-order requests.
• Minimise waste.

Equipment condition monitoring

• Conduct pre-start checks before operating equipment.
• Conduct ongoing and systematic 1st line equipment surveillance and condition monitoring.

Material handling and processing

• Adhere to milling instructions and monitor mill & Kiln runs.
• Issue work instructions to Operator support.

Stock management

• Conduct end of shift assessment of raw material and work-in-progress material.

Quality Management

• Escalate quality issues that may affect production to the foreman.

Governance

• Comply with departmental Joint Audit Protocols.
• Comply with PPC Operating Best Practices.

Risk Management

• Comply with safety, health and environmental procedures.
• Assist with investigations of incident & accidents and implement required corrective action.
• Comply with ISO 9001 system requirements.
• Minimise waste - Comply with work rules, standards and methods.
• Take care to minimise waste.

Internal customer support

• Ensure product availability and quality to loadout process
• Provide input into scoping of engineering project relating to production in terms of equipment specification.
• Provide support to internal stakeholders on request

Competency Management

• Perform Planned Job Observation as per competency assessment criteria.
• Identify gaps and remedial action (on the job training).

Performance Management

• Conduct scheduled Performance reviews and amend IDPs as required.
