In collaboration with our Red Cross and Red Crescent partners around the world, we do everything we can to deliver life-saving aid, reconnect families and locate missing people - helping those who need it most, regardless of who they are and what side of the front line they are on. We engage with authorities and armed forces on all sides, often confidentially, pressing for access to detainees to improve their living conditions and urging compliance with international humanitarian law to protect non-combatants, including from digital threats.
Purpose
The Full Stack Frappe Engineer will design, develop, and maintain a next-generation digital protection ecosystem built on the Frappe Framework, replacing the existing Microsoft Dynamics Customers Relationship Management (CRM) platform. Working closely with solution architects, product owners, and technical stakeholders, the role will deliver full-stack (backend and frontend) development, system integrations, and scalable solutions aligned with business priorities and architectural standards.
Accountabilities & functional responsibilities
- Designs, develops and maintains the new Protection digital ecosystem using the Frappe Framework;
- Builds REST APIs and integrates external systems and services;
- Designs and optimizes MariaDB database structures and queries;
- Develops responsive frontend interfaces using JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and Frappe UI tools;
- Creates custom DocTypes, reports, workflows, scripts, and dashboards;
- Writes server-side business logic in Python;
- Troubleshoots bugs, performance issues, and production incidents;
- Manages containerized deployments using Docker and Kubernetes/OpenShift;
- Creates and maintains CI/CD pipelines for Azure DevOps and GitHub for automated build, testing, and deployment;
- Performs code reviews and maintains technical documentation;
- Resolves assigned incidents and requests while ensuring resolution time commitments are met according to the service and operational level agreements (SLAs and OLAs);
- Ensures that the tickets are managed and followed pro-actively / contributes to the monitoring of all product tickets and requests proactively (and management of backlog);
- Supports Information and Communication Technology (ICT) teams in the field in the use of global and centrally managed ICT solutions.
What we will look for in your profile
- Bachelor's degree in IT engineering degree or equivalent. ITIL & DevOps certification is an asset;
- Minimum 2 yrs experience of production Frappe development, with deep mastery of DocType metadata, workflows, permission hooks, custom report builder, RQ background jobs, scheduled events;
- Minimum 3 years frontend, of which 1 yr on Frappe UI (Vue) in production. Deep Progressive Web App (PWA) / Service Workers / Background Sync experience; client-side persistence patterns; conflict UI; offline UX; Right-To-Left (RTL) layouts, i18n;
- Minimum 5 yrs experience of production development in Python;
- Significant experience in integrating and running complex technical solutions is mandatory;
- Strong unit and integration testing discipline (Frappe test runner, pytest) is a strong plus.
- Excellent command (spoken and written) of English. Fluency in French is an advantage;
- Strong Knowledge of Docker/Podman, Linux. Experience working with Kubernetes/OpenShift is a plus;
- Strong knowledge of database systems and SQL is required. MariaDB knowledge is a plus;
- Familiarity with Git version control is an advantage;
- Contribution to the Frappe UI ecosystem a strong plus;
- Demonstrable open-source presence is a plus;
- Experience working with Azure DevOps is a plus.

- Location: Nairobi, Kenya.
- Type of Contract: 1-year Fixed term contract (renewable subject to Budget discussion and performance).
- Type of position: Applicants must have an existing legal right to live and work in Kenya at the time of application. The ICRC will not sponsor or obtain work permits for this position.
