Your primary responsibility will be to turn our heaps of data into actionable insight and improved efficiency.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: HelveticaNeue;">The team you would be joining is responsible for driving decisions utilizing cloud data warehouse technologies, advanced visualization, data science, along with solid collaboration!</span></p><ul style="list-style-type: disc;"><li><span style="font-family: HelveticaNeue;">A degree in a quantitative field such as Statistics, Math, Computer Science, Physics or Engineering</span></li><li><span style="font-family: HelveticaNeue;">2-5 years’ experience in a data science, software development or quantitative analysis role.</span></li><li><span style="font-family: HelveticaNeue;">The skills below are preferred but not required.<span>&nbsp;</span>We expect more experienced candidates to tick more of these boxes and the successful candidate will learn all of these during their career at Mr Price.</span><ul style="list-style-type: disc;"><li><span style="font-family: HelveticaNeue;">Python or R, using libraries like Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn, tidyverse, etc</span></li><li><span style="font-family: HelveticaNeue;">SQL, Relational DBMS and data modelling – to source and transform your inputs and save and explore your outputs.</span></li><li><span style="font-family: HelveticaNeue;">Exploratory Data Analysis skills – to explore and understand your data.</span></li><li><span style="font-family: HelveticaNeue;">Applied statistics or machine learning methods e.g. Neural Networks, Decision Trees, Time Series Analyses, Clustering, Regression, Deep Learning.</span></li><li><span style="font-family: HelveticaNeue;">Optimisation Techniques e.g. Linear Programming, Genetic Algorithms, Simulated Annealing</span></li><li><span style="font-family: HelveticaNeue;">Big Data processing platforms like Spark</span></li><li><span style="font-family: HelveticaNeue;">Data Visualisation tools e.g. Excel, PowerBI, Tableau.</span></li><li><span style="font-family: HelveticaNeue;">Responsible software engineering practices e.g. Version Control (git), Design Patterns, Reproducability, Deployment etc.</span></li><li><span style="font-family: HelveticaNeue;">Experience LLMs and GenAI – to leverage advanced AI techniques for innovative solutions.</span></li></ul></li></ul><p><span style="font-family: HelveticaNeue;"><strong>How we work?</strong></span></p><ul style="list-style-type: disc;"><li><span style="font-family: HelveticaNeue;">The Data Science (DS) team sits within the Mr Price Advance team – alongside our Data Warehouse, Business Intelligence, Special Projects and Robotic Process Automation teams.</span></li><li><span style="font-family: HelveticaNeue;">The Mr Price Advance team falls within the Mr Price Technology division.<span>&nbsp; </span>The Technology division has various specialisations (e.g. Security, Cloud, Infrastructure) which allows each of us to focus on our own particular strengths.<span>&nbsp; </span>(There’s also the annual Hackathon.<span>&nbsp; </span>So far the DS team has 2^nd and 4^th places – come help us win this year!)</span></li><li><span style="font-family: HelveticaNeue;">We have hybrid working arrangements, typically working Mondays and Fridays from home.</span></li><li><span style="font-family: HelveticaNeue;">Majority of our work (80%+) is project based with the balance (~20%) spent supporting our existing solutions.</span></li><li><span style="font-family: HelveticaNeue;">You will usually oversee a key part of a project, seek support from your data science team mates as needed, and give regular progress reports to the Head of Data Science.</span></li></ul><p>&nbsp;</p><ul style="list-style-type: disc;"><li><span style="font-family: HelveticaNeue;">Apply Machine Learning, Optimisation and AI techniques to our data with the aim of improving our business.</span></li><li><span style="font-family: HelveticaNeue;">Improve our business through analyses and hypotheses testing.</span></li><li><span style="font-family: HelveticaNeue;">Communicate insights, results and analyses to stakeholders.</span></li><li><span style="font-family: HelveticaNeue;">Promote and facilitate data-driven business decisions.</span></li><li><span style="font-family: HelveticaNeue;">Building relationships &amp; gaining deep knowledge of the Mr Price business</span></li></ul>
