About CDTD

Centre for Domestic Training and Development (CDTD) is a national non-governmental women’s rights organization in Kenya that has championed the economic empowerment of women through professional training of domestic workers since 2001. The organization also implements programs addressing human trafficking, refugee support, internal displacement, and gender-based violence (GBV), including the operation of a safe house for survivors.

Role Purpose

The role coordinates vocational training, education, and skills development programs, and facilitates participants’ transition into employment and self-employment. The role supports vulnerable girls and women—including refugees and survivors of GBV—to acquire market-relevant skills, complete training, and access sustainable livelihood opportunities. It also builds and maintains partnerships with training institutions, employers, and other stakeholders to strengthen job placement pathways, ensuring all interventions are child-friendly, rights-based, and trauma-informed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participant Identification and Assessment
    • Identify and assess vulnerable women and girls using structured assessment tools and referral systems.
    • Conduct intake interviews, home visits, and verification processes to determine eligibility and levels of need, including cases involving abuse, neglect, exploitation, or economic vulnerability.
    • Screen and profile participants to match them with appropriate education, training, and skilling opportunities.
    • Maintain accurate and confidential participant records in line with data protection and organizational policies.
    • Prepare assessment summaries and participant profiles to inform program planning, referrals, and support services.
    • Collaborate with partners and community stakeholders to ensure transparent and inclusive participant selection processes.
  • Education and Skilling Programs
    • Design and coordinate market-driven vocational, educational and life skills programs aligned with labor market demands.
    • Facilitate training in entrepreneurship, digital literacy and other income-generating skills.
    • Integrate financial literacy, business development, and savings methodologies into training curricula.
    • Support access to formal and non-formal education opportunities and monitor academic progress.
    • Promote holistic development by integrating life skills, career awareness, and personal development into training programs.
  • Career Guidance, Mentorship, and Monitoring
    • Conduct regular monitoring of trainees through follow-ups and field visits to training institutions and workplaces.
    • Track participant performance, well-being, and progress throughout training and transition phases.
    • Provide ongoing mentorship and career guidance to support informed career choices.
    • Facilitate reflection sessions to assess learning experiences and address challenges.
    • Support data collection, reporting, and learning in collaboration with Monitoring & Evaluation officer.
  • Transition to Employment and Entrepreneurship
    • Establish and maintain strategic partnerships with employers, industry actors, and private sector stakeholders to create job placement opportunities for program participants.
    • Facilitate job matching by aligning participant skills, training outcomes, and careeer interests with employer needs and market demand.
    • Coordinate internships, apprenticeships, and workplace exposure opportunities to enhance employability and smooth transition into the labor market.
    • Support participants in accessing self-employment pathways through structured business development support, including start-up kits or grants based on approved criteria and viable business plans.
    • Strengthen linkages with financial institutions and enterprise support services to improve access to capital and business advisory for aspiring entrepreneurs.
    • Provide post-placement and post-training mentorship to enhance job retention, career progression, and business sustainability.
  • Data Administration and Reporting
    • Manage and maintain education and training databases, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely updates of learner and program records.
    • Collect, clean, and validate data related to enrolment, attendance, completion rates, and certification outcomes.
    • Administer student management information systems.
    • Ensure compliance with data protection policies and relevant regulations when handling learner information.
    • Develop and maintain data collection tools, templates, and standard operating procedures.
  • Reporting & Analytics
    • Generate periodic reports (weekly, monthly, quarterly) on program performance, learner progress, and training outcomes.
    • Analyze data to identify trends, gaps, and opportunities for improving education and skilling programs.
    • Create dashboards and visualizations using tools such as Microsoft Excel, Power BI, or Tableau.
    • Provide data-driven insights to support decision-making, planning, and policy development.
    • Prepare reports for stakeholders, including management, partners, and donors.
  • Safeguarding, Compliance, and Risk Management
    • Ensure strict adherence to safeguarding, child protection, and gender-sensitive programming principles.
    • Maintain confidentiality and ethical handling of participant information.
    • Ensure compliance with organizational policies, donor requirements, and legal frameworks.
    • Report safeguarding concerns in line with CDTD policies and procedures.
  • Additional Responsibilities
    • Participate in internal planning meetings, reporting, and capacity-building initiatives.
    • Perform any other duties as assigned to support program objectives.

Required Qualifications and Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Community Development, Gender Studies, Business Development, Education or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in livelihoods, skilling, job placement, or protection programming.
  • Demonstrated experience working with vulnerable populations, including women, girls, and refugees.
  • Strong understanding of labor markets, vocational training systems, and entrepreneurship development.
  • Knowledge of gender, protection, and safeguarding frameworks.
  • Strong partnership development and private sector engagement skills.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in data management, reporting, and monitoring tools.
  • High integrity, professionalism, and ability to work independently.

Performance Standards

  • Delivery of timely, high-quality program and donor reports.
  • Increased access to employment and sustainable livelihoods for participants.
  • Effective program participants follow-up systems.
  • Proper documentation of program results, success stories, and lessons learned.
  • Compliance with timelines, budgets, and organizational policies.
